The Straight As Framework Tool

A collaborative effort of Minnesota Minority Education Partnership, Inc. (MMEP), Minnesota Private College Council, Citizen's League, Minnesota Campus Compact, and Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MNSCU), the "Straight As for College Success," is a handy at-a-glance reference framework for the five As and two Es of college success.

 

What Are the Five Straight As and Two Es for College Success?

  • Awareness: Students truly understand what college is and what it means to “go to college.”
  • Academic Achievement: Students take and pass rigorous courses.
  • Access: Students take the appropriate steps necessary to apply and enroll in the college of their choice.
  • Affordability: Students apply for and are awarded all federal and state grants for which they are eligible.
  • Attainment: Students remain enrolled and persist in their education until they earn a degree or certificate.

Concurrent with aspiring to and working towards the five Straight As above, college success also depends on Engagement – how students view the future, and Encouragement – how students are supported.
